Since there is no clear web page available on how to reserve tickets on SETC, TNSTC and government buses in tamilnadu.
Be clear that there is not facility available at present to book tickets online on SETC/ TNSTC buses, though few websites say like that
http://www.tnstc.in/ is not a useful website , it will not have option to create username and password, also not yet updated about their Air conditioned bus services available.
To book/ reserve tickets in SETC/ TNSTC one has to follow this procedure.
The good thing is http://www.tnstc.in/ has the information about where all the computer reservation can be done and reservation centers where only manual reservation can be done
How to reserve SETC / TNSTC buses

1) one has to go to bus stand in their city / town to reserve the tickets, list of computer reservation centers and manula reservation centers available in tnstc website and also the phone numbers of bus stands
2) I dont suggest use SETC, instead always try to use the TNSTC transport, for reason and more info read my another post , the below link :

3) In chennai tickets can be reserved in koyambedu bustand and T.Nagar, 5 tickets at the max can be booked using single form and multiple forms require to book above 5 tickets
4) always make clear enquiry about the bus availability before filling the form and many times enquiry person and person reserving the tickets in counter are not in synch and they may provide contradicting info, its your responsibility to get the right information by asking questions
How to reserve KPN, Parveen and other private travels
Among these buses KPN is the best, followed by parveen, Kannathal, SRM, ABT.
Everyone has their own website and you can login and check the availability of tickets, sometimes few buses may not be listed in their websites which they are running, hence confirming with them through phone would help.
Many times tickets are blocked for weekends in all of these transports, hence planning ahead would help.

Complain to SETC, and got no response
Hello Sir,
I am writing this mail, so that atleast in future [maximum in a years these problems will be rectified by bring this to you attention]
I was deeply suffered by choosing the SETC Ultra deluxe bus to travel from Chennai to Karaikudi. [Other TNSTC buses are far better from SETC]
Due to this experience, for next 2 years I have decided not to travel in SETC buses and so my friends, relatives and people known to me. [This connection count is unimaginable, around 1000 people going to stop travelling in SETC as I already have written my reviews in orkut, facebook, Hindu and india times, all the people in my office forums about my experience.
I have booked the ticket 1 week advance to have a nice journey by when good private bus tickets were available and now regret for my decision.
Bus no : 133
Start Time : 8.00 PM
Reasons :
1) very slow
2) seats are very ugly and dirty, no covers were used
3) unnecessary delay
4) very pathetic place to refresh in the midnight
5) fuel consumption is given more importance than passengers time and money
6) I want this transport become one of the best and everyone should come forward happily to travel in next 12 months
Detailed reason : [Please read if you are really interested to fix the problems of passengers, I believe you can]
1) (actually departed by 8.15 from koyambedu, thats not a problem in fact, but came out of koyambedu only by 8.40, this is also fine since everyone and every transport were facing this issue in koyambedu and you are not sole responsible for this)
2) Driving was very very very very slow by both the drivers, even when there were no vehicles for next ½ kilometers in front of this bus, bus was travelling only in 50km speed. [over 300 vehices overtook]
3) Bus reached tambaram only by 10.00 due to heavy traffic and slow driving, but there was no feel of compensating this delay and atleast trying to compensate the delay by driving in normal speed as other government buses like TNSTC] infact Vilupuram transport buses are cheap and they are best to travel in long according to my observation
4) After all this , instead of passing trichy via bypass, since no passengere were there to get down at trichy, time wasted in trichy of more than 45 minutes. [reached trichy depot by morning 5.00], driving 7 hours from tambaram to trichy is unacceptable since roads are very good in condition and all other buses were able to pass this distance in 5 hours at ease
5) There was a problem in trichy depot for fuel filling and passengers were to made to wait for fuel filling, this is total pathetic condition, all this kind of fuel filling and auto related issues should be done before the bus starts, as this is not a private unreputed travels, so that they don’t have to worry about customer and also don’t have to worry about higher officials like you kind of respected officers to take action on them
6) When enquired the drivers they were complaining back that they were getting scolded daily for such issues by passengers and nothing can be done by them as they speed limit is locked and fuel tank locked and can be filled only in trichy and there are lot of restrictions in getting the fuel filling also.
What are these and where is our country going I don’t know. When this travel was functioning as Tiruvalluvar transport, the lowest grade buses were neatly maintained and infact we cannot hear any noise from the bus outside and inside, but now the ultra deluxe bus which is almost paid nearly to private buses like sangita travels are functioning in this pathetic manner.
All we expect is neatly maintained, express service [no just in name , but also in speed],

Transport in Tamilnadu [No to SETC]

I am a guy who always like to prefer government transports on long travel. But After my recent experiences suggesting not to use SETC buses for long trips.
TNSTC and SETC are different transports though the buses like ULTRA Delux, Video coach buses look similar. TNSTC buses are nothing but old transports like theeran chinnamalai, pattukottai alagir transports etc. they are now called as TNSTC kovai, TNSTC kumbakonam etc.
TNSTC buses are very good to travel, but SETC are to be avoided.
Cons of SETC :
Never cross the speed of 60 kms, hence one cannot reach the destination on time, [speed limit done on buses]
SETC are costlier than TNSTC tickets
Fuel filling and all will happen in trichy while having passengers on board for an hour sometimes and trichy is the only place to fill fuel for many destinations in case of SETC
Pathetic maintenance of buses including new AC buses, which are bought with huge amount and given to wrong hands , at the same time TNSTC buses are well maintained and even we can see white seat covers are used and look clean in TNSTC buses [like kovai and kumbakonam transports].
